Artist's Comments

I don't own Ronin Warriors.

Number 3 in my series. Ryo of the Wildfire in tiger form. Maybe a bit predictable, but I felt like a tiger suited him. I also decided to include his weapons on this one. The paws were the hardest part of this drawing. Drawn with pencil, lined with ink, finished with coloring pencils.

I think he makes a good (literally) tiger. And an interesting POV.

You do well with the line art...what I would love to see you start working on is the shading...and understanding of the muscles beneath the skin. You tend to do well with the animals, as you said, I think if you began to develop it more you can be a great wildlife artist. To begin learning the shape forms that underlie the overall shape.

That's what I am still learning with humans. It's not easy!

Yeah I tend to get in a hurry and keep shading at a minimum. My patience isn't what it used to be. But of course, to draw great art, it takes time and effort. You can't rush with it. I need to slow it down, I suppose. Seems like I have a hard time with the muscles in animals...even with references to real animals. I'll keep working on it though, thanks.

Muscles take a while to learn. but the more you do it, the more it becomes natural. : )

yeah not many "How-To-Draw" books show the muscles underneath. But I guess that's what animal anatomy books are for. :D

Yeah, I think the best books are ones that don't give biology lessons, but make you understand the underlying shapes.
